BBC Presenter Quizzed Over Body In Bath
A BBC children's television presenter arrested on suspicion of murdering his fiancee and supplying cocaine has been released on bail.Mark Speight and Natasha CollinsMark Speight - who fronts art show SMart - had been questioned after the body of Natasha Collins was found in a bath. Sky Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said she was found at the couple's home in north London. Mr Speight was arrested at the scene and taken away for questioning. But Brunt said: "After several hours of investigation police are coming to the view that this isn't a suspicious death but this has still to be completely verified." Detectives are now awaiting the results of toxicology tests. A post-mortem will take place next week. Sky Sources say Mr Speight - who tried to revive Miss Collins and alerted the ambulance service - has been very helpful to police. A statement issued on the presenter's behalf said: "At the moment no-one knows what happened. Mark found her body in the bathroom and immediately called an ambulance and the police. "Mark was the only other person present in the flat and has therefore been questioned by police as a matter of course. "He is assisting police with their enquiries and had nothing to do with Natasha's death. "Mark is absolutely distraught at the loss of Natasha and hopes that everyone will appreciate what a very sad time this is for both Mark and Natasha's family." A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called at 13.20 on January 3 to reports of a sudden death of a woman at a residential address in St John's Wood. "The woman, aged in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. "A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene. He has been bailed to return to a central London police station on a date in February." Miss Collins' agent Mark French told Sky News: "They always went everywhere together- they were just a really fun couple who were fantastic together." He added: "This is a very tragic loss for us all." A friend said Miss Collins - an actress, model and presenter - had been prone to fits after being hit by a car a few years ago, an accident which put her in a coma. Mr Speight - who shot to fame as the presenter of Children's ITV Saturday morning show, Scratchy & Co - and Miss Collins had previously co-presented BBC show, See It, Saw It. Source: SKY NEWS |
